A project chosen for the Carrefour des Possibles

A project submitted by Pierre Merriaux, a research engineer from the IRSEEM, the Research Institute of the ESIGELEC engineering school, has been chosen for this new edition of Crossroads of the Possible.

The second edition of Crossroads of the Possible took place on 16th May 2013, in the H2o science area. Crossroads of the Possible consists of detecting and highlighting innovative uses of information and communication technology (ICT). It is organised under the auspices of CREA and the innovation agency SEINARI as part of the European Centre for Enterprise and Innovation (CEEI) “I innovate in Rouen” and operates according to a process of meetings and coaching of innovators.

27 projects were submitted this year, from which 10 project leaders, from widely varying backgrounds, were invited to present their innovation during this final evening. The aim was to foster exchanges by giving innovative projects an opportunity to be shown in front of the regional economic players.

Among the 10 selected projects was that of Pierre Merriaux, a research engineer from the IRSEEM, the Research Institute of the ESIGELEC engineering school. His project, Iléou, is a vision-based indoor localisation smartphone application which consists of visually finding your way around facilities or a building. The application connects to a server with knowledge of the layout of the building you are in. Your position and direction are determined with the help of the telephone camera, and the user can follow the guiding instructions displayed on the smartphone.

This project could be used for helping the elderly move around, for a dynamic museum tour or optimising your trip round the supermarket.
